What is in a Name?

Why we are Mighty Fit?

May 19, 2021

As we thought about what we wanted to do and who we wanted to do it with this was the word that came to us: Mighty. With the goal of guiding people to reach their personal fitness goals, we thought Mighty Fit was the sentiment to get the ball rolling. We like that everyone is different and each seeks their own outcome. Rarely do we find two clients seeking the exact same result. Appreciating this truth, we enjoy creating custom workouts to meet each specific person’s desired result. With Might Fit, you will receive your personal workout, weekly check-ins, video sharing to confirm form and measure progress, metrics to confirm your gains, and as much contact as you require. With a Mighty Fit group class, you will receive individual attention. We listen to you before, during, and after class; mics on, even if you chose to turn your video off. We observe and offer modifications. Some people need a deeper challenge and we add progressions. For others, perhaps coming off of an injury, they need to know how to back off while still benefiting from exercise. We excel at these modifications. We have our own arthritic knees and moody hips. We have learned ourselves how to maximize results while honoring the reality of our bodies.

Accessibility

We knew we wanted to do what we do online – as well as in person. The chief attraction to online for us was to be able to help more people. Fitness has been moving online over the past few years; the Covid pandemic was only the latest push. Some people have and will return to gyms as long as they feel safe. Others have discovered the convenience of working out at home. It is likely that people will find a balance going forward. This is why we aim to make our fees affordable. You may do all of your fitness with us or just a portion of your fitness. We aim to be accessible for what you need. If you don’t see what you want, please ask.

The Name Game

Once we made our plans, as we said, we needed a name. This, truly, was the fun part. There were so many options. So many words that convey exercise and fitness and getting stronger and more flexible. So many gyms and trainers across the world with a million trillion names. What name was right for us? What name would start out right and keep being right as we grow?

Mighty.

The word Mighty came to us.

The word Mighty struck.

Yes, there is Mighty Mouse. We thought of him too. We loved him from childhood.

Here I come to Save the Day is an awesome sentiment. How about: Here You Come to Save Your Day.

What does Mighty mean to us? Why did Mighty feel so right?

We have confidence. At the same time, we live to learn. There is always something new to come to know. There is always the opportunity to correct a mistake.

We believe in strength. We believe gaining muscle improves our daily living activities. Being stronger makes everything easier. We like how muscle looks, but love most how it feels. Lifting something off a shelf, making the bed, gardening, walking, hiking, biking, all movement is powered by stronger muscles.

We believe good posture is the gift that keeps on giving. It is the most noticeable sign of aging when people begin to collapse in the chest, jut out their chin and drop their shoulders forward. Rounded shoulders are also the sign of the desk worker and device holder. Andrea is a writer and knows from slumping into writing mode. Our bodies work best when we are erect. At Mighty Fit, we detail the work of standing to ensure that we bring our muscles and joints into the optimal position for our bodies and build the strength to stand tall.

Customized for you

Flexibility and range of motion are unique to each individual body. We each can move as far as we personally can move and no further. We encourage our clients to get to know themselves. It is through this self-knowledge that you can expand your range of motion and increase your flexibility guided by the rules of your body. We’re inspired by the insights of Paul Grilley, “Architectural principles start from the premise that all structures, including our bodies, are a balance between stretching forces and crushing forces, or briefly “tension and compression”. The cables that stabilize telephone poles or lift elevators are being stretched, they are subject to tension. The telephone pole itself or the support columns holding up a building are being pressed, they are under compression. When we practice Yoga asana the fundamental distinction to make is this: “Are the physical restrictions I am feeling tension or compression?” Tension is due to the stretching of a muscle or connective tissue but compression is determined by the shape of our bones.” This means that compression is something we live with; tension is something we can work with. Let’s celebrate our uniqueness and find the best way for us to move in our bodies.

We also recognize we aren’t just bodies and at Mighty Fit we believe in strengthening our spirits and our minds. Mighty for us is body, mind, and soul. To be Mighty is to know oneself, love oneself, celebrate oneself. When we are Mighty, we have energy for our choices, our loved ones, our friends, our community, our hopes, and our desires. When we are Mighty Fit, we are fully alive in every moment.

Mighty Fit is a celebration of life and possibility.

It is life-changing.

Mighty Fit is a big venture with concrete gains.
